Tomatillo Grande Rio Verde

Description

(Husk Tomato) 80 days. Approx. 88 seeds/pkg. Large fruited tomatillo with sweet green fruits measuring 2 to 3 inches across ( 1.8 - 2.8 oz), enclosed in a papery husk. Vigorous prostrate vine. Used in salsa verde or in pies. Tomatillos are the key ingredient in fresh and cooked Latin American green sauces. The freshness and greenness of the husk is a quality criterion. Good disease resistance. Best if planted in groups for cross polination. Not to be confused with green tomatoes that are unripe, the flavor of this "little tomato" is suprising. If the husks are removed, the tomatillo can be stored in ziplock bags in the fridge for 2 weeks. Can also be frozen for later use. Species: Physalis philadelphica (syn P. ixocarpa)
